Man shot in Brockton on Tremont Street near scene of July’s murder

BROCKTON — A male victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries to his hand and leg after a shooting that occurred on Tremont Street on Friday night, near the scene of a fatal shooting earlier this year.

Brockton police received a gunfire alert from ShotSpotter, the city’s electronic gunfire detection system, at 10:35 p.m. for the area of Tremont and Fulton streets, according to police spokesperson Darren Duarte.

When they arrived at the scene, police say officers learned that a gray SUV had fled the area soon after the shooting.

A male victim arrived at the hospital hours later with a non-life-threatening injury to his hand and leg, he said.

Police recovered six 9-millimeter shell casings and one 9-millimeter round from the scene, Duarte said.

The shooting occurred near the scene of July’s fatal shooting, was occurred outside 46 Tremont St., which is next to the intersection with Fulton Street. In that incident, a man was killed and two women were injured following a July Fourth gathering.

Police did not say whether the incidents are believed to be connected in any way.

The incident remains under investigation. No arrests have been made.
