Former Buckeye teacher arrested after claims of sexually abusing student

A former Buckeye teacher has been arrested in relation to accusations of sexually abusing a student, according to a Buckeye police news release.

On April 18, staff at the Odyssey Institute for Advanced and International Studies, near Verrado Way and Yuma Road, told Buckeye police they received information about a possible inappropriate relationship between a 42-year-old female teacher and one of their high school students.

The woman used to teach at the school, the release stated.

Buckeye police’s special victims unit initiated an investigation and learned that the abuse began around last August, according to the release. The teacher left the school in October.

The news release states that the victim is a 17-year-old student who attended the high school.

Evidence was later presented to a Maricopa County grand jury, which indicted the teacher on multiple counts of sexual conduct with a minor.

On Monday, police took the teacher into custody at her Buckeye home without incident, according to the news release.
